The 2007 European Job Days, an EU-wide initiative running until 29 September which brings together jobseekers and recruiters at more than 500 events around Europe in over 230 cities has been launched.

In Cyprus, there will be a joint seminar held on September 27 in Nicosia (for details e-mail: [email protected]) while the European Job Days Info Stand will be open to the public during September 28 and 29 at Nicosia’s

Elefhterias Square

.

The Job Days aim to raise awareness of the opportunities to move around Europe for work and provide both employers and jobseekers with possibilities for direct recruitment. The event is a follow-up to last year’s successful European Job Fairs, which attracted 150,000 visitors.

“The Job Days represent the EU’s jobs and growth strategy in action – encouraging job mobility around Europe and helping to reinforce growth,” said Vladimír Å pidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. “They help employers to fill vacancies and jobseekers to find jobs. The opportunity for people to move around Europe to work is good for individuals, business and everyone in the EU.”

The Job Days are being organised in co-operation with EURES, the Europe wide employment service, and its dedicated network of more than 750 job mobility advisers.

Events will take place in over 230 towns and cities around Europe and include job fairs, seminars and workshops all aimed at improving labour mobility in Europe. A wide range of organisations such as local businesses, public and private employment services, trade unions, universities, learning and training centres and chambers of commerce are taking part.

The Brussels Job Day event will for the first time ever take place in the European Commission’s headquarters – the Berlaymont building – where 60 employers will be present to recruit new employees. The event will be opened by Commissioner Å pidla and will welcome special guest, tennis star Justine Henin.

The 2007 Job Days take place in the context of the EU’s 50th birthday celebrations and the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All.
