Cyprus House Committee to begin debate on state budget

The House Finance Committee will begin its debate on the 2008 state budget on October 11 and is expected to conclude at the end of November. Committee chairman Antigoni Papadopoulou has said that each minister will present the budget for his ministry, justify it and explain its philosophy to Committee members.
Party representatives will have the chance to outline their positions on the proposed budget for each ministry and to question the minister concerned on the specific budget.
She also said that the Finance Committee is scheduled to hold 15 meetings, beginning October 11 in the presence of Finance Minister Michalis Sarris and hold weekly meeting every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
“We intend to conclude our debate on Monday November 28 with the Governor of the Central Bank attending and then the budget and the report of the Finance Committee will be referred to the House plenary for consideration,” she added.
