Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus Themis Themistocleous said on Friday that the Commission remains fully committed to supporting a resumption of UN-led talks for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem as soon as possible.

Commenting on Turkish media reports that EU representatives, which were not named, had said that EU member states and institutions may recognise the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas if the Cyprus problem was not solved within the EU context, Themistocleous pointed out that ”there is absolutely no foundation whatsoever for the alleged statement by an EU official.”

”In line with its long-standing position, the Commission remains fully committed to supporting a resumption of UN-led talks for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem as soon as possible,” he added.
