Cypriots’ new love affair with travel shows no sign of abating with the number of trips abroad recording a rise of 19.3% in July.
On the basis of the results of the Passengers’ Survey, 121,708 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in July 2007 compared with 102,040 in the corresponding month of 2006.
By far the biggest market was the UK, where there was an increase from 13,572 in July 2006 to 19,999 in July 2007, marking an increase of 47.4%.
Greece was also popular. In July 2007 there was an increase of 21.8% of trips of residents to Greece (from 46,941 in July 2006 to 57,176 in July 2007).
Conversely, a decrease of 16.2% in residents returning was recorded from Syria and 26.9% decrease from Lebanon, both traditionally popular destinations that have been affected by security concerns.
