Nearly 1 million passengers have traveled through Cyprus’ two airports, at Larnaka and Paphos, in August 2007, recording an 8.35% increase on August 2006, said a press release issued by Hermes Airports Ltd, the company which has taken over Larnaka and Pafos airports, with the BOT (Build Operate and Transfer) method.

According to the press release, at Larnaka, passenger figures for August 2007 showed a 13.44% increase on August 2006.

Jenni Fernando, Manager Marketing for Hermes Airports Ltd, said “we are delighted to see such record numbers at our two airports for August 2007. These figures confirm the continued strength of Cyprus as an attractive destination for holiday makers.”

Passenger traffic for the year to date is also up 2.23% on 2006 levels, the press release added.

Over the months of June, July and August, more than 2.6 million air passengers traveled into and out of Cyprus, putting heavy demands on facilities and staff at both airports, it added.

For summer 2007, Hermes Airports has introduced new car parking and set down arrangements, additional check in desks, new retailing and catering outlets, arrivals and meet and greet facilities at both airports.

According to the press release, these significant upgrades have been made to both terminals, until the new passenger terminals will open at Pafos International Airport in November 2008, and at Larnaka International Airport in November 2009, as part of a €622 million investment programme.
