World Shooting Championships 2007 begin in Cyprus

A total of 102 athletes from 30 countries participate in the first day of the World Shooting Championships 2007, taking place at the Olympic Shooting Centre in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Today’s programme includes the disciplines of Men’s Douple Trap, Junior Men 140 and Women’s Double Trap. The first day will wrap up with the final in Men’s Double Trap to take place at 17:00 local time (1400 GMT), which apart from the medals will also allocate one quota place for the Beijing Olympic Games seats, out of the five to be allocated during the Championships in Cyprus.

The double Trap’s entry list includes the elite of the discipline, with names such as Sweden’s Hakan Dahlby who leads the ISSF world double Trap rankings, Italy’s Daniele Di Spigno, second, USA’s Walton Eller (third) and Russia’s Vitaly Fokeev (fouth).

The World Shooting Championships 2007, to be concluded on September 10, was declared open by Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos at last night’s official opening ceremony.
