Ericsson and Finnish operator Elisa have successfully launched HSPA on the uplink in Elisa’s 3G network.

HSPA on the uplink (also known as Enhanced Uplink or HSUPA) allows data transfer speeds of 1.4 Mbps, more than three times the speed of traditional 3G networks. Higher bit rates for outgoing traffic improves the end-user experience of mobile broadband services such as video conferencing, file sharing and sending e-mails with attachments.

“We will further speed up mobilization of internet services and applications for our customers e.g. with HSPA on the uplink,” said Panu Lehti, Executive Vice President at Elisa.

Janne Laitala, President, Ericsson Finland, added that “HSPA on the uplink is an important milestone in the evolution of HSPA. With the take-off of online communities and video-sharing services, greater uplink speed will add a new, mobile dimension to such activities.”
