Turnover in the Cyprus shipping sector rose by 8.5% year on year in the first half of 2007 if one extrapolates from transport data.

According to the Statistical Service, the turnover index for “water transport” increased by 8.5% in January-June 2007 compared with the corresponding period of 2006.

Since there is no transport by river in Cyprus, the only water transport in Cyprus is shipping, apart from the very small tourist boat excursion sector.

The Cyprus ship register is the 9th largest in the world.

According to the Statistical Service, land transport rose by 6.5% year on year in the first half; telecommunications rose by 9.2% but air transport fell by 4.0%.
