Cyprus trade deficit widens to CYP 1.13 bln / EUR 1.93 bln

Cyprus‘ trade deficit during the first five months of 2007 widened to CYP 1.13 bln (EUR 1,93 bln) from CYP 1.01 bln in the same period last year, according to the Statistical Service of the Republic.

According to the monthly report “Intra-Extra E.U Trade Statistics for May 2007”, the total of exports in January-May 2007 dropped to CYP 275,4 mln (EUR 470.9 mln) from CYP 291,3 mln in January-May 2006, while the trade deficit was CYP 1.129,7 mln in January-May 2007 compared to CYP 1.011,1 mln in January-May 2006.

The value of imports in January-May 2007 rose to CYP 1.405,0 mln (EUR 2,4 bln) compared to CYP 1.302,3 mln in January-May 2006.
Total of imports in May, (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) was valued at CYP 299,7 mln (EUR 512,5 mln).
Total exports (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states), including stores and provisions, in May amounted to CYP 59,8 mln (EUR 102,3 mln). These included exports of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, as well as  exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions.
