Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis was beaten by world No. 1 and 2005 champion Roger Federer at the Cincinnati Tennis Tournaments ATP Masters Series WTA Tour.

Federer, who advanced to the quarter finals, saved four first set points in his 7-6(5), 7-5 win over Baghdatis. He converted three of five break points and saved nine of 11 break points he faced. The world champion also benefited from nine Baghdatis double faults.

In statements, Federer acknowledged that it “was a struggle out there” and “tough to keep the ball in play and they were really quick conditions”. He now faces Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, a 6-2 7-2 winner over Finn Jarkko Nieminen.
