Aqua Engineering, Mondsee, a member of the Christ Water Technology AG Group, has been awarded the engineering and construction on a turnkey basis of a large seawater desalination plant by Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, leading a consortium together with the local construction partner Tecton Engineering L.L.C.

The total value of the order amounts to USD 121 mln, of which USD 84 mln is the share of Aqua Engineering, consisting of the delivery and assembly including commissioning of the entire SWRO (seawater reverse osmosis) membrane plant. Following three years of construction, the plant will produce 91,000 cu.m. drinking water per day according to the strict rules of the WHO out of seawater for the local population.

Dr. Johannes Laimer, Managing Director of Aqua Engineering, said, “this project is the first stage of a total of five plants planned of similar size giving us good chances for follow-up orders.”

For more than 25 years, Aqua Engineering GmbH engineers and supplies sophisticated plants for the treatment of drinking water, waste water and desalination of seawater for small communities up to large cities. Aqua Engineering has subsidiaries and branches in all major growth regions in the Near, Middle and Fast East, in South and North Africa.
