Eight people in Cyprus were admitted to hospitals today, suffering symptoms of heatstroke, while one of them died, as heat wave and high level of humidity continue to cause great discomfort.

In Nicosia, an 81- year old woman died of heatstroke in the ambulance on her way to the Nicosia General Hospital, while a 50-year old woman, also from Nicosia, was admitted to the Hospital in a coma condition.

In statements to CNA, Minister of Health Costas Kadis urged the people to follow the instructions of the Medical Services and the Public Health Services and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from high temperatures, which in many cases rise above 40 degrees Celsius.

“During the past 24 hours, we have had eight incidents of heatstroke. The health condition of most of these people is considered to be critical ”, he said.
