Manufacturing inches up in May

Manufacturing output in Cyprus inched up May, as the index rose by 0.1% compared with May 2006 to 112.5 (2000 = 100). 

The fastest rising category was production of transport equipment, up 15.4% year on year.

This was almost matched by the decline in leather and leather products, down by 14.9% year on year.

In the first five months of 2007, manufacturing output rose by 2.3%.

Output in the small mining and quarrying sector rose in the same period by 20.7%; output of electricity, gas and water fell by 11.0% and total industrial production comprising all three sectors rose by 2.4%.
