Retail sales soar by provisional 14.2% in March

Retail sales volumes in Cyprus rose by 14.2% compared with the same month of the previous year in March 2007, according to provisional figures for March from the Statistical Service Cystat.

At the same time, revised figures for February recorded an increase of 6.0% compared with February 2006. Turnover volume fell compared with the previous month, but for seasonal reasons, since the sales are held in January.

For the period January-February 2007 the index recorded an increase of 4.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2006, while according to the provisional figures for March, sales volumes were up a healthy 7.6% in the first quarter of the year.

Meanwhile, in terms of value, for the period January-March 2007 the index is provisionally estimated to have an increase of 10.4% compared with the corresponding period of 2006.
