US Defence Attache died of bleeding due to incisions to the throat

Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Mooney, Defence attache of the American embassy to Cyprus, bled to death due to deep incisions to his throat, according to the post mortem results, carried out by forensic pathologist Marios Matsakis.

The cause of death ”was excessive bleeding caused by deep incisions to the throat,” a press release issued by the Cypriot Police says, adding that his body was identified through dental records.

Mooney’s body was found yesterday in the mountainous area of Orkontas west of the capital Nicosia.

US Ambassador to Cyprus Thomas Schlicher issued yesterday a written statement confirming that Mooney’s body was found and expressed ”deep sadness” for his death.
