Overall tourism arrivals may be falling in Cyprus, but data on expenditure per tourist show a small silver lining, with rising expenditure per head.

Average tourist expenditure per capita rose to CYP 382.3 (EUR 654.8) in April 2007, from CYP 360.5 in April 2006, marking a rise of 6.1%.

This was much faster than the increase in overall consumer prices, which rose by only 1.8% in the same period.

At the same time, average expenditure per day rose by 4.1% to CYP 40.7, from CYP 39.1 in April 2006.

Easter was celebrated in April in both 2006 and 2007.

Norwegians were the highest spenders in April, at CYP 557.9 per person, followed by Russians at CYP 522.8 and Americans at CYP 461.2.

The longest stayers were again Norwegians, with an average stay of 13.5 days, followed by Americans at 12.6 and Britons at 10.5.
