EU Agriculture Commissioner to visit Cyprus

The European Union’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marianne Fischer Boel, arrives for a three-day visit of the island on Thursday that includes a tour of the wine producing areas.

The Commissioner arrives at Larnaca Airport Thursday morning and will have a working lunch with the Minister of Agriculture Natural Resources and Environment Photis Photiou in Nicosia after which she will meet with nongovernmental agricultural organizations and other stakeholders of the sector at the Hilton Hotel. Following that meeting she will host a press conference in the evening.

On Friday, Commissioner Boel will have separate meetings with President Tassos Papadopoulos, House President Demetris Christofias and with members of the parliamentary committee for agriculture.

In the afternoon she will embark on a day-tour to the wine producing areasthat will take her to Vasa Koilaniou (Limassol District), “Vasa Wineries” at Argyrides, vineyards in the Vasa area and will end her tour with a visit to the Wine Museum in Erimi

The Commissioner’s programme for Saturday will include sightseeing to Ayios Lazaros church in Larnaca, Angeloktisti church at Kiti and the Hala Sultan Tekke by the Salt Lake before departing for her flight home at noon.
