MTN Areeba, the alternative mobile phone operator, is sponsoring the current champion Apoel football club of Nicosia in a three-year deal estimated to be worth CYP 500,000 (EUR 855,000).

The sponsorship comes into effect on July 1 and coincides with MTN’s other sports activities in the 21 countries of operations, including the sponsorship of the 2008 Africa’s Cup in Ghana and the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

MTN Areeba’s Managing Director Bassel Jamaleddine said that the cooperation with “the greatest team and Cyprus champion Apoel” includes a number of merchandising and marketing deals. He said that the first 1000 Apoel fans who buy season tickets will also be eligible for Areeba pay-as-you-talk prepaid packages, while Apoel logos will also appear on special Areeba cards.
