The Nokia 6110 Navigator, which began shipping this week, will have its navigation capabilities tested as it accompanies actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman as they take the “Long Way Down” to Cape Town on BMW motorcycles. With the 6110 Navigator routing the path, best friends Ewan and Charley have begun their monumental motorcycle journey from John O’Groats, Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa, with a number of stops planned along the way. Long Way Down follows on from 2004’s Long Way Round where Ewan and Charley motorbiked around the world from London to New York over 115 days.

On such an arduous motorcycle journey across some of the most testing terrain in the world, the Long Way Down team will be relying on all of the Navigator’s features to keep them on the right track, but also to meet all of their media, communication and navigational needs in one. Whether it’s checking maps, surfing the net for information, taking photos and video or just keeping in touch with their friends and family back home, the team will be able to do all of this and more with the new Nokia.

“During Long Way Round we kept getting lost and had to rely on anything from landmarks to advice from locals in all sorts of languages to find our way, so getting a proper navigational tool for Long Way Down was a real priority” said Ewan McGregor. “We’ve been playing around with the Nokia 6110 Navigator before setting off and it’s just what we need to stay on track”.

The 6110 Navigator brings together GPS (Global Positioning System) and AGPS (Assisted Global Positioning System) functionality with always-on mobile connectivity in a feature-rich, compact device. Operating on WCDMA 2100 and GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks, it will be available in shops across Europe, Asia, Middle East, and selected countries in Latin America.
