Labour Minister to attend EU Employment Council

Labour and Social Insurance Minister Antonis Vassiliou leaves Tuesday for Brussels to attend the EU Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council, to take place May 30 and 31.

An official press release issued here today said the agenda of the Council included, inter alias, issues of security and health at work and the establishment of an Alliance for Families.

EU Ministers are expected to discuss during their working lunch issues concerning immigration in relation to the labour market.

On the sidelines of the Council, Vassiliou will have a meeting with his counterparts from 10 EU member states (Greece, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg and other members) to discuss measures for the promotion of the Lisbon Strategy social dimension.

Vassiliou returns home Friday.
