EU Commissioner for Science and Research visits Cyprus

European Union Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik arrives Tuesday in Cyprus on an official visit.
During his two-day visit, on May 29 – 30, Potocnik will be received by Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and will meet with Finance Minister Michalis Sarris. Present at the meeting will be the Ministers of Education and Culture Akis Kleanthous and Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Michaelides.
The visit aims at the exchange of views and information with Cypriot officials on matters relating to government policy on research and important aspects of the relevant European policy, such as the 7th European Programme on Research and Technological Development, the European Institute of Technology and the development of the European Research Area.
The 7th Programme is the main financial source for activities in the field of research.
The European Commissioner and his entourage will also visit Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and will be briefed on its activities.
Potocnik will give a speech during a gathering organised in Nicosia, on May 30, by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation.
