Cypriot President points out Sarkozy’s dedication to Europe

Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has described as important the fact that newly elected French President Nicolas Sarkozy has categorically stated his dedication to Europe, adding that there is no reason for concern.

To a remark that concerns have been expressed regarding Sarkozy’s election, President Papadopoulos said, ”Mr. Sarkozy has his views, the EU has the decisions. It is a very important country for the EU. We will see how Mr. Sarkozy will implement the policy he sees as the best for strengthening Europe.”

President Papadopoulos pointed out ”it is important that he has categorically stated his dedication to Europe and I think it is no reason for concern.”

He added that ”there is never any concern for a democratically elected leader of a country.”
