Cyprus Minister departs for EU-Arab meeting in Saudi Arabia

Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Lillikas departed on Monday for Saudi Arabia, to participate in the 17th Joint Council and the Ministerial Meeting between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, to take place in Riyadh on May 8.

The Joint Council will discuss the further strengthening of cooperation between the EU and the Gulf states, and the situation in the area.

Lillikas will speak about developments in the Middle East, expressing EU positions, and will refer to the prospects of solving regional problems, as well as ways to strengthen regional cooperation.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Lillikas will have contacts with counterparts participating in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Joint Council was set up in the framework of the 1989 Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the Cooperation Council.

Lillikas returns home on May 9.
