Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardes said UN Secretary General Special Representative to Cyprus Michael Moller has called a meeting Thursday between the Director of Cyprus’ President Diplomatic Office Tasos Tzionis and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat’s aide Rasit Pertev.

Pashiardes said the Greek Cypriot side always responds to any invitation by Moller.

On Turkish Cypriot allegations that Miller is a friend of the Greek Cypriot side, Pashiardes said that “I don’t know what Moller’s feelings are”.

“I only know what has been reported, that Ankara has asked for Moller’s removal from his post. Officially we do not know whether Ankara has demanded Moller’s removal. And of course we do not understand the reasons for which the Turkish side has possibly asked for this removal,” he added.

Pashiardes noted that neither side in Cyprus is entitled to ask the UN Secretary General about the person who will represent him in Cyprus.

“This is for him to decide and it is within his competency, neither us or the Turkish side has a say or a right to intervene,” he pointed out.
