Britain says it owes no money to Cyprus over Bases

The British government says it has fulfilled its financial commitments to the Republic of Cyprus concerning the two sovereign military bases it has retained in Cyprus since the island gained its independence from British colonial rule in 1960.
The Cypriot House of Representatives adopted Thursday unanimously a resolution calling on the Cyprus government to make all necessary representations towards Britain to pay its debts to the Republic of Cyprus. A Foreign Office Spokesman said: “We have taken note but are satisfied that we have fulfilled our financial commitments to the Republic of Cyprus”.
