DTK Computer Middle East, one of the region’s leading brands of personal computers, notebooks and servers, has indicated that it is fully prepared to capitalize on the rising demand for personal computers (PC) in the UAE.
A recent Madar Research report shows that PC sales in the UAE are expected to grow at a compound average growth rate of around 12% and the country’s share of total sales for both the GCC and Levant is expected to exceed 10.6%, reflecting a sales volume of 1.5 mln plus units in the five year period between 2003 and 2008.
The study shows that by 2008 UAE’s PC penetration rate will be 27.5% which is significantly higher than the world average.
The marked increase in PC sales in the UAE in the recent years is spurred by initiatives hatched by both the government and private companies. One of these initiatives was a joint project by the Ministry of Education and Etisalat that launched the Internet for Schools campaign in October 2004, which was aimed at bringing the 758 public schools and 465 private schools in the country online.
The thousands of companies operating at the free zones, which have predominantly white-collar employees, have also been contributing to the increased PC penetration.
Nimer Al Attal, Managing Director, DTK Computer Middle East, said, “The impressive PC penetration rate in the UAE is not surprising given the unparalleled growth and development taking place in the country. Moreover, UAE, which is committed to create a knowledge-based digital economy, has been focused on maximising the reach of computers across the country. DTK on its part has been complementing this goal by introducing high performance cost-effective PCs like the Cruiser 5015 desktop PC.”
DTK, in partnership with AMD, is spearheading an initiative called 5015, which aims to equip 50% of the global population with IT connectivity through flexible IT solutions by the year 2015. The Cruiser 5015 desktop PC, which uses AMD technology, is one of the tools used to realize the 5015 initiative.
“DTK recognizes the UAE’s aggressive e-government initiatives as a significant step in promoting computer awareness and PC penetration, which is why DTK is doing its own complementary initiatives by increasing production of affordable fundamental technology platforms, such as Cruiser 5015,” said Al Attal.
