The Cyprus government has proposed the creation of a total of 567 civil service jobs, with 669 being new positions and 102 job redundancies aimed at improving the quality of service and productivity.

With the civil servants pay now accounting for two-thirds of the annual state budget, the government officially ended its moratorium on new hiring, citing improved fiscal conditions, which nevertheless coincide with next year’s Presidential elections.

The legislation tabled before the Cyprus House also includes pay adjustments for up to 786 positions in the civil services. The new positions and the pay adjustments will cost the state CYP 16.3 mln or EUR 28 mln annually.
