Managers and leaders with no financial background are often called upon to make decisions and provide guidelines, based on financial statements and accounting data. The correct and insightful interpretation of such information is a vital tool in reaching the correct decisions and taking the best course of action. Numbers are not always as good, or as bad, as they are presented to be, therefore non-financial managers need to be aware of the limitations of accounting data and financial statements.

Busy executives can now acquire these skills in a two-day seminar on “Finance for Non-Financial Managers”, organized by the Cyprus International Institute of Management CIIM on March 19 and 20. The purpose of the seminar is to teach the basic terminology of finance and accounting, help participants understand the principles involved in the preparation of financial statements and in the interpretation of accounting data, especially in the context of the stock market, and appreciate important differences in the reporting of such data in Cyprus and in the European Union.

Dr Peter Clarke, a distinguished Professor in Accounting at University College Dublin will be leading the seminar. He is the Chairman of the Irish Accounting and Finance Association and external examiner for a number of universities, with over 90 publications on accounting under his belt. He has received a host of distinctions and awards from organisations such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the International Federation of Accountants in New York and the European Union.
