Ericsson has delivered its EDA VDSL2 solution to Finnish regional telephone company PHP (Päijät-Hämeen Puhelin) based in the city of Lahti.

The deal, under which the system will become operational in March, will enable PHP to offer its broadband customers triple-play services combining IPTV with voice and data in a versatile package.

Arto Kaikkonen, Managing Director of PHP, says: ” We aim to be an operator that turns the opportunities offered by broadband technology into full-scale services for even the most demanding of customers, keeping us at the forefront of progress.”

Based on Ethernet architecture, Ericsson’s EDA VDSL2 (Very-high-bit-rate DSL) is a new-generation broadband solution that provides access speeds of up to 100Mbps over existing copper networks. This simplifies network structures and, in addition to unparalleled broadband speeds, also means enhanced cost-efficiency for operators.

Janne Laitala, Managing Director, Ericsson Finland, says: “The VDSL2 solution will facilitate services including IPTV, which is gaining popularity globally. IPTV brings dozens of television channels and versatile video-on-demand services to broadband subscribers.”

Ericsson EDA is the most widely deployed IP-DSLAM solution in the world and is part of Ericsson’s Full Service Broadband offering.
