Cyprus tourism revenue up 2.2% in 2006

Cyprus recorded a 2.2% Year-on-Year increase in revenue from tourism in 2006 with total earnings estimated at CYP 1.02 bln or EUR 1.76 bln compared to CYP 1.00 bln in 2005.
According to data released by the Statistical Service, based on the results of the Passenger Survey, tourist arrivals in 2006 dropped by 2.8% compared to 2005 and reached 2,400,924 compared to 2,470,063 in 2005.
The highest per capita expenditure in 2006 came from Russian tourists at CYP 881.2 (CYP87.1 per day), followed by tourists from Scandinavian countries, such as Sweden with CYP653 and Norway with CYP628.2, and Austria CYP472.7. The lowest per capita expenditure came from tourists from Israel with CYP217.7 and Italy with CYP226.7.
Furthermore, income from revenue from tourism reached CYP28.8 mln in December 2006 compared to CYP30.3 mln in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 5.2%. During the same month, arrivals dropped by 6.1% compared to December 2005, reaching 71,022.
