Cyprus has donated 30.000 dollars to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, which was set up last March to provide immediate emergency financial aid in humanitarian crises.
The donation was presented Friday by Cyprus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis, during a high level meeting for the Fund, which took place at UN headquarters.
Mavroyiannis described moves to upgrade the Fund as a significant step towards the response of the international community to problems arising from various disasters, natural or man-made.
The Fund, he added, allows the UN to foresee and intervene in good time to ensure equal treatment of all humanitarian crises.
