Prestigio Systems, a subsidiary of the Cyprus-based Asbis Group, has launched a wide range of digital media centres (DMC) with easy-to-use equipment for advanced home entertainment.

The Prestigio DMC packages can replace the personal computer at home or in the living room with a device that hooks up wireless to a number of outlets such as a plasma or LCD TV, and does away with the home theatre system, DVD or VCR player. They are also compatible with MP3 players and iPods and support most audio and video systems, such as MPEG, Divx and Xvid.

The system comes with an interactive keyboard or remote control has a price range of CYP 599 for the entry-level DMC 364, leading up to the 7-Series top-of-the-line custom made products that start from CYP 1350.

A new addition to the multimedia family of storage or IT hardware is the Digital Media Adaptor that can enable a wireless network for multiple users with a range of up to 25 metres, selling for CYP 90. The company is also preparing to launch a PC LCD in 2007 under its Canyon brand.

Asbis, initially established in 1990 with operations in Belarus, Ekraine and Russia, is now the leading IT distributor in the former Sooviet Union (FSU) and eastern Europe, with an annual sales figure of just above USD 1 bln. The 2006 target is for USD 1,05 bln, recording more than a 10% increase over the 2005 figure of USD 930 mln and earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of USD 12,9 mln.

Sergei Kostievich, founder and CEO of the Asbis Group, said that from a Cyprus-based distributor of IT components, the company has evolved into a designer and developer of products, with design, production and distribution centres in Cyprus, the Dubai Free Zone, eastern Europe and Asia.

The group also assembles PCs and notebooks, as well as other peripherals and storage devices and is the leading distributor for Intel, AMD, Seagate and Hitachi in the region.
