Motorola, Inc. is celebrating the shipment of the company’s 50 millionth digital cable set-top and reflecting on ten years of invention for the connected home that has turned its original promise into a reality. This is a huge landmark for the company and the industry.
Motorola’s Connected Home Solutions Division held an event celebrating their 50 millionth digital cable box being shipped out in Horsham, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. Township mayor Michael McGee was on hand for the event, and declared the day “National Set Top Box Day.”
Here’s what 50 million set-tops look like:
– 50 mln Motorola set-tops stacked one on top of the other would reach a height of over 11 mln feet, almost 400 times that of Mount Everest!
– 50 mln Motorola set-tops placed end-to-end in a straight line would cover the distance from London to Sydney, Australia.
