AKEL chooses successor at Cyprus Ministry of Interior

The communist party AKEL, the main partner of the ruling coalition, proposed its Education Commissioner, Neocles Sylitziotis, to succeed outgoing Andreas Christou who steps down to run for Limassol Mayor in the upcoming municipal elections in December.

Sylitziotis was called to the Presidential Palace late Thursday and met with Tassos Papadopoulos, who will swear in the new minister later Friday.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Sylitziotis will head to the Ministry of Interior where Christou will hand over the office to his successor.
