Total market cap surges to CYP 7.6 bln

The total market capitalisation, including the Investment Companies, warrants and bonds listed on the Cyprus Stock Exchange reached CYP 7.64 bln compared to CYP 7.36 bln the previous month, registering an increase of 3.77%, the CSE April Monthly Digest reveals.

The market capitalisation of shares (excluding Investment Companies Market) reached CYP 4,58 billion. According to the April digest, the Main Market accounted for 51,19% of the total market capitalisation, the Parallel Market 2,11%, the Alternative Market 6,65%, the Investment Companies Market 2,46% and the Bond Market 37,20%.

The total value of transactions during the month in review reached CYP 70.86 mln, with an average of 4.2 mln per trading session.

Active account

The CSE Digest revealed that the number of active accounts during April for domestic private investors was 5201 and domestic institutionals 377, while foreign private investors numbered 92 and foreign institutionals 13.

Domestic investors sell

Domestic private investors were net sellers of CYP 10.6 mln in April on total purchases of CYP 36.6 mln and total sales of CYP 47.18 mln, while domestic institutionals increased their purchases to CYP 28.07 mln compared to CYP 20.58 mln sales for a net purchase amount of CYP 7.5 mln.

Foreign institutionals purchases the value of CYP 3.03 mln of securities and sold only CYP 763.000 for a net input of CYP 2.26 mln while foreign private investors purchased CYP 3.13 mln against total sales of CYP 2.33 mln for a net input of CYP 800.000.

Individuals dominate

Despite attempts by the CSE to reduce the dominance of domestic private individuals on the stock market in favour of institutionals, domestic private investors continued to hold 254.832 accounts controlling CYP 1.94 bln of market cap.

Domestic institutionals numbering 7024 were controlling CYP 2.13 bln of market cap, foreign private individuals numbering 9476 held CYP 800 mln of market cap while foreign institutionals numbering 214 were controlling CYP 200.88 mln of market cap.

The CSE revealed that 47.566 or 16% of the total investors held only 1 trading account, 5046 or 1.7% had 2 trading accounts, 555 or 0.2% had 3 trading accounts and 102 or 0.03% held more than 4 trading accounts.
