The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) is confident that the number of German tourists visiting Cyprus this year will increase, with confidence high after a German tour group confirmed they will divert at least 25,000 more tourists to the island.

The German VDK, which specialises in trips to Turkey, is reported to have agreed to divert 25,000 German tourists to Cyprus. Germany is the second largest tourism market for Cyprus after the UK, supplying the island with around 185,000 tourists a year out of a total 2.4 mln.

During a tourism exhibition held in Germany, CTO officials said the prospects of increased arrivals from Germany are good, at least for winter 2007 season, even though the summer 2006 figures may be distorted by the 2006 World Cup, which is taking place in Germany.
