Tokyo stocks rebound on Vodafone Japan deal

Tokyo stocks rebounded Monday as a reaction to the news of internet firm Softbank planning to buy the Japanese unit of British mobile phone giant Vodafone Group PLC.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average soared 237.82 points, or 1.52%, to close at 15,901.16.

The Tokyo stock index of all first section issues was also up 13.50 points, or 0.84%, to close at 1,626.46.
