More than 700 persons had renewed their road tax online through the JCC Smart web site from the comfort of their offices or homes and away from the long queues that they normally face either at the Coops or at the Inland Transport Departments islandwide.

A JCC Payment System spokesman told the Financial Mirror that by early Tuesday, just 24 hours after the consortium announced that it was accepting payments on behalf of the Transport Department through credit cards, more than 700 had taken advantage.

The government hopes that the establishment of an online payment method for the annual or biannual tax on motor vehicles will bring an end to the long lines formed at the Inland Transport every year just before the road tax due date.

The online system, available 24 hours per day, can be accessed by visiting: www.jccsmart.com, where users may follow easy to follow instructions to pay their road tax dues. Note that you need to have your registration number, the details of your ID card, the insurance company and policy number of your vehicle. The receipt and road tax sticker that you apply will then arrive by mail in several days.
