Britain has welcomed the idea of reopening Ledra Street in Nicosia as a crossing point between the two sides and is disappointed with the obstacle emerging, a spokesman for the British Foreign Office has said, adding that his country supports efforts made by the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) to overcome this obstacle.

The Republic of Cyprus government has said that the Turkish army is encroaching on the buffer zone although the UN has said that this is not the case.

“We have welcomed the idea for the reopening of Ledra Street . We are disappointed with this obstacle and we support the efforts of the UN Peace Force to overcome it,” a Foreign Office spokesman said.
