Cyprus and Pakistan sign first ever maritime agreement

Cyprus and Pakistan signed their first ever maritime agreement on November10. The agreement was signed by Minister of Communications and Works Haris Thrasou and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Cyprus Asma Anisa.

The Cyprus fleet is the 3rd largest in the EU.

An official statement said the agreement aims to develop and improve cooperation between Cyprus and Pakistan in the field of commercial shipping.

It also promotes participation of ships from the two countries in transporting goods between them, cooperation to prevent problems that affect the development of sea commerce and employment, improving conditions at work as well as the welfare of seafarers.

It also provides for granting facilities to ships from both countries, mutual recognition of certificates from both Pakistan and Cyprus, restricting the delays at ports as well as granting assistance in case of maritime accidents.
