Thailand plans to launch a “Cyber Clean” scheme to get the Internet-surfing public intimately involved in the crackdown on “improper” websites, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has announced.

ICT Minister Sora-art Klinpratoom said the ministry would place a toolbar on 50 popular Thai websites that allows people who surf the Internet to on send messages or pictures of “improper web pages or contents as tip-offs to officials of the ministry immediately”.

With the cooperation of Thai surfers, ICT officials would be able to trace online wrongdoers and take legal actions against them, Sora-art told the Thai News Agency (TNA).

He said the ministry would evaluate the performance of the Cyber Clean scheme after a three month trial period. (dpa)
