Record visitors from U.S. (70%), Europe (20%)

August hits reach 1.56 mln

‘Cyprus’, ‘Turkey’, ‘Helios’ top news searches

The Financial Mirror’s website, www.financialmirror.com, has been going from strength to strength, with the number of visits reaching new records ever since it underwent a total revamp and relaunched in March 2005.

The number of visitors from abroad, primarily from the U.S. and Europe, as well as the domestic visits continued to rise steadily up until mid-October, taking advantage of our continuous news updates on a daily basis on politics, business and finance, IT as well as access to our huge research database.

The numbers speak for themselves as seen in the total unique visitors to our site and their countries of origin, provided by our web site administrator, SmarterTools Inc.

August was a record month with single hits reaching a record 1.56 mln, three times the total number of hits recorded in our launch period of March to June.

The biggest number of hits came from the U.S., with this doubling from the March-June figure of 39% to 70% in July-October.

The biggest number of hits (44.8%) came from California, followed by Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Virginia, Texas, New Jersey, Georgia and New York.

As regards visits from Europe, these were led by the U.K., Italy, France, Holland, Spain, Greece, Germany, Norway, Belgium and EU-applicant Bulgaria.

From Asian countries the hits came primarily from India, Israel, Japan, China, Turkey, Russia, Taiwan, the UAE and Korea.

The biggest number of referrals came, unsurprisingly, from our own website, suggesting that viewers have now bookmarked www.financialmirror.com for daily news and regular updates or they enter this page directly, possibly selected as a ‘home page’. Other referrals came from the hottest news sites, namely news.google.com, news.google.co.uk, www.cyprus-news.com, www.google.com and www.onlinenewspapers.com. This is no wonder, as to test the system, simply enter ‘Cyprus’ on the Google News site and more than half of the listed news items will be from the Financial Mirror web site. As regards search engines, the leading referrals came from the most popular sites in the world – Google, Yahoo, About.com, Microsoft Network, AOL NetFind, Lycos, Alta Vista, Ask Jeeves.

Naturally, phrase searches for ‘Cyprus’ and ‘Cyprus news’ topped the selections, followed by ‘Turkey’ as well as various Technology news items. However, specific searches were dominated by the Helios air crash on August 14, with the most popular word search bring up the Financial Mirror when requesting ‘Cyprus’, ‘Helios’, ‘Turkey’ and ‘EU’.
