A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed yesterday by Cypriot Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lillikas and Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transportation Mohamad Safadi for the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone between Cyprus and Lebanon.

According to an official press release, during the visit of the Cypriot Minister to Lebanon it was agreed that a mission of Lebanese technicians would visit Nicosia early next month and that Safadi would pay a visit at the end of November.

During a meeting between Lillikas and Lebanese Minister of Industry Pierre Gemayel, the two Ministers discussed ways of developing the relations between the two countries in the industrial sector, emphasising on how to hold seminars and provide know-how from Cyprus to Lebanon in the agro-food sector.

There was also an agreement between Lillikas and the Lebanese Minister of Trade and Economy Sami Haddad for providing help to Lebanon from Cyprus on statistic matters and the training of personnel in the energy sector.

Lillikas met in Lebanon with Environment Minister Yaacoub Sarraf, who is expected to participate in the Regional Ministerial Meeting on health and environment issues, which will be held in Nicosia on the 10th of October.

Sarraf briefed Lillikas on the Lebanese environmental policy and asked Cyprus for its help in extinguishing forest fires. (CNA)
