Industrial output inched up in July, recording a rise of 0.2% year on year compared with a fall of 1.6% in June.

However, the rise in overall industrial output, which comprises the three categories of manufacturing, electricity, gas and water, and mining, masked an overall fall in manufacturing output, which fell by 2.2%.

Manufacturing output has fallen almost every month this year. Even the subsectors which began the year on a positive note, such as wood and wood products and non-metallic minerals, have turned to decline.

By contrast, output of electricty, gas and water rose by 7.7% year on year in July, above its average so far this year of around 7%.

Mining output, which has been a bit volatile, rose by 3.8%, having fallen by 4.1% in June.
