Trade deficit hits CYP 1.04 bln

The trade deficit in the first half of 2005 was up 1.2% to CYP 1.04 bln, according to figures released by the Statistics Department.

Total imports/arrivals for the period January – June 2005 increased by 5,0% to CYP 1.353,1 mln, compared to CYP 1.288,9 mln in January – June 2004. Total exports / dispatches for the period January – June 2005 increased by 20,5% and valued at CYP 314,9 mln, in comparison with CYP 261,3 mln in the corresponding period of 2004.

On the basis of preliminary estimates for Foreign Trade in June 2005, total imports/ arrivals were CYP 233,7 mln, of which CYP 148,4 mln were arrivals from other Member States of E.U. and CYP 85,2 mln imports from Third countries. Total exports/dispatches were CYP 55,9 mln of which CYP 35,8 mln were dispatches to other Member States of E.U. and CYP 20,1 mln exports to Third Countries.
