The Turkish publishers of the Harry Potter series of books have threatened to take legal action after reports that unofficial Turkish translations of the latest book in the series, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, have been posted on the internet.

Yapi Kredi Publications placed advertisements in Turkish newspapers on Thursday pointing out that such translations are illegal and that they will take “whatever necessary measures” to stop websites that carry the unofficial translations.

Turkish children, just like their counterparts all over the world, have taken to the Harry Potter series and news of the official launch of the sixth book in the series was widely covered in the Turkish press.

While the worldwide launch of the English edition certainly created excitement in Turkey, Turkish children who cannot read English must wait until October before Yapi Kredi Publications launches the Turkish version. (dpa)
