The Hellenic Police has installed Motorola’s Printrak Biometrics Identification Solution (BIS) to help identify, process and manage individuals who have committed a crime.

The Printrak BIS is a state-of-the art system that enables automated fingerprint and palmprint matching for fast and accurate suspect identification. The Printrak BIS was installed in Athens with remote sites in the cities of Patras and Thessaloniki. The solution provides information sharing between different agencies and will ensure higher data integrity and consistency across the country in order to more easily identify criminals.

“We have been a Motorola customer for 10 years. We trust its technology and believe in its vision for biometrics. Migrating from our older Series 2000 system to the new Printrak BIS has provided us significantly more functionality and accuracy in matching fingerprints and palmprints. The system is faster and we are making hits that we did not make on the Series 2000, which is helping us solve more crimes,” said Assistant Director Yannis Yannakouris, Chief of the Investigation Department of the Police Forensic Division.

Motorola delivered the system one month ahead of schedule and achieved system acceptance two months prior to the projected plan.

“The Hellenic Police are solving crimes that have been open for years, and it is rewarding to see customers benefiting from Motorola’s research and advancements in the field of biometrics,” stated Darrin J. Reilly, Motorola Communications and Electronics, Inc, Vice President and General Manager, Biometrics Business Unit.
