Louis Plc annouced it has agreed to buy the 682-berth Aegean I through a Group subsidiary for USD 5,4 mln (CYP 2.45 mln).

The 11,563-tonne ship had been operating four-day cruises from Pireas to the Greek islands and the Turkish port of Kusadasi, as part of the troubled Golden Sun Cruises fleet since 1998 that comprised two other cruise ships on charter.

The Aegean I, built in 1973 as the Zim ro-ro ferry Narcis, was bought by Dolphin Hellas cruises in 1986 and renamed Aegean Dolphin after conversion to a cruise ship with 280 cabins in 1988. In 1995 she is listed as operating for Epirotiki. She was renamed Aegean I whilst on charter to Renaissance Cruises in 1996 and to Golden Sun on Mediterranean cruises since 1998.

It boasts five bars, four lounges, library, cinema and a casino.

The Louis deal is subject to approval by the relative authorities.
