CyTA introduced its new tariff policy on fixed telephony and monthly rental fees, which will go into effect as of June 1, 2005 in a major overhaul of its fee policy based on flexibility and providing the customer the option to choose from multiple packages.

CyTA Chairman Stavros Kremmos said that the whole pricing policy has been carefully constructed to allow the consumer the choice and flexibility to choose the scheme most economical, and after receiving the approval of the Telecom Regulator.

CyTA Managing Director Nicos Timotheou said the new tariffs were calculated taking into account CyTA’s operational costs as well as the cost of capital employed.

FIXED COSTS RISE

As part of the new tariffs policy, the cost of connection rises from CYP 30 to CYP 37, while the fixed line monthly rental fee rises from CYP 5 to CYP 6.95 for the first line per household and then CYP 6.45 per month thereafter for additional lines.

For ISDN connections, the cost increases from CYP 40 to CYP 60 while the ISDN monthly rental cost rises from CYP 8 to CYP 13.40.

CALL CHARGES DECLINE

Call charges from fixed to fixed during peak hours decline from 2c per 2 minutes to 0.88c per minute, and 0.76c per minute during off-peak hours. Fixed to mobile will now cost 2.16c per minute irrespective of peak or off-peak while call charges to Internet double from 2c per 6 minutes to 1.4c per 2 minutes.

FLEXIBLE PACKAGES

CyTA is also introducing effective June 1, 2005 its flexible packages offering wide-ranging choice to consumers.

Households may opt for the Classic Package with no minimum monthly call charge, and 0.88c/minute for fixed to fixed during peak hours and 0.58c/minute during off-peak hours. Fixed to mobiles cost 2.16c/minute while fixed to Cytamobile during off-peak hours cost 1.5c/minute.

In addition to the monthly rental fee of CYP 6.95, CyTA also charges 1c per call for the first 50 calls while for additional lines/ISDN connections there is an extra CYP 0.50 per month.

For those who have teenagers in the house, the Classic Package seems a good choice as teenagers mostly call during off-peak hours, while those who seldom call are likely to see an increase in their monthly costs as the rental cost is hiked.

Business Silver has a minimum charge of CYP 20 per month, with fixed-fixed charged at 0.84c/minute during peak hours and 0.76c/minute during off-peak hours, while charges to mobiles are 2.04c/minute for both peak or off-peak.

Business Gold has a minimum charge of CYP 50 per month, but those opting for this service receive an additional discount of 5%, with fixed to fixed costs during peak hours slashed to 0.80c/minute and 0.76/minute off-peak and fixed to CyTA mobiles costing 1.92c/minute during peak and off-peak.

Business Platinum has a minimum charge of CYP 200 per month, but with a 10% discount factor, with fixed to fixed during peak and off-peak hours costing 0.76c/minute and fixed to CyTA mobile 1.86c/minute during peak and off-peak.

There are no restrictions on the package to be selected (households may chose any business plan or vice versa) but CyTA customers are allowed one-shift per month without any charge. Those opting for the business plans should note that the minimum amount is payable even if the subscriber has not made adequate calls during the month.

Timotheou said the call tariffs to other provider numbers/network will depend on the agreements to be entered with each provider.

LOW INCOME

CyTA has also introduced reduced rates for lower income groups, whereby the service is only available to individuals whose annual income is less than CYP 4389 (as determined by government statistics) while for each additional dependent there is an additional allowance of CYP 2194.50 and for every child the allowance is CYP 1316.07. There are also additional discounts and incentives for people with special needs.
