Cypriot Minister of Justice and Public Order Doros Theodorou left today for Helsinki where he will participate in a conference with his counterparts of the Council of Europe to discuss the social aspects of law and review work accomplished in fighting terrorism.

Speaking upon departure at Larnaca airport, Theodorou announced that later on he will travel to Latvia in order to sign a bilateral agreement with the government of the country to fight terrorism and organised crime.

He will then fly on to Luxembourg for the EU Ministers of Justice and Internal Affairs Meeting.|

Responding to questions Theodorou said authorities of the EU member states face terrorism issues often and are regarded as very important in modern society and governments.

Such meetings, he noted, are held not only at a ministerial but also at heads of police forces level.

According to a CoE press release the Helsinki conference will deal with methods of solving problems concerning over-indebtedness at both national and European levels and the social mission of criminal law, including how to provide better victim support and how to reintegrate offenders into society more effectively.
